Durante el pasado mes de octubre, en Musicks os hablamos del buen momento que vive la música indie en China, y os presentamos a Da Bang y a Nova Heart. Esta vez os traemos a Re-TROS, y dejamos que sea su cantante y frontman, Hua Dong, quien nos hable de la escena alternativa de su país.
Re-TROS es el acrónimo de Rebuilding the Rights of Statues. Es una banda originaria de Pekín con una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas, y con una gran proyección fuera del país asiático, llegando a girar en Estados Unidos en el año 2012, actuando en Nueva York y en el festival South By SouthWest entre otros.
A pesar de su larga trayectoria, cuentan con tan sólo un EP («Cut Off», 2005) y un disco («Watch Out! Climate Has Changed, Fat Mum Rises», 2009). Tras casi 6 años de espera están en proceso de grabación de su esperado segundo álbum. Podéis haceros una idea de su sonido escuchándoles en Spotify y Soundcloud.
Aprovechando su gira europea, hicieron parada en Berlín para grabar su nuevo single que saldrá este mismo otoño. Nosotros tuvimos la suerte de cazarlos justo antes de su concierto y no quisimos perdernos la oportunidad de que nos respondiesen a algunas preguntas. Así, sentados a la puerta de la berlinesa sala Marie Antoniette y a los pies de las vías del tren, hablamos con su cantante Hua Dong sobre su amor a esta ciudad, la evolución desde el post punk de sus primeros años hasta los sonidos más experimentales y electrónicos que nos encontraremos en el nuevo álbum (evolución de la que fuimos testigos en su concierto), y sobre la situación de la música alternativa en China.

We Interviewed Re–TROS: «The Alternative Music Scene In China Is Much Better These Days. There Are About A Hundred Festivals A Year.«
During the month of October, Musicks featured Da Bang and Nova Heart and we talked about the good times that indie music in China is currently enjoying. This week we’ve been talking to Hua Dong, singer and frontman with Re–TROS, about the country’s alternative scene.
Re–TROS stands for Rebuilding the Rights of Statues. With a long career behind them, this is another group from Beijing that is having an impact outside China. They toured the United States in 2012, performing in New York and the South by Southwest festival among others.
Despite their long career, they have only recorded one EP («Cut Off», 2005) and one album («Watch Out! Climate Has Changed, Fat Mum Rises», 2009). After waiting almost six years, they are currently in the process of recording their second album. You can get an idea of their sound by listening to them on Spotify and Soundcloud.
Making the most of their European tour, they stopped off in Berlin to record their new single, due out this autumn. We were lucky enough to catch them before their concert and didn’t want to miss out on asking them a few questions. So we sat down with singer Dong Hua at Berlin’s Marie Antoinette concert hall entrance under the viaduct and talked about their love for this city, the evolution from the post punk of their early years to the more experimental and electronic sounds in the new album (which we witnessed in concert), and what’s going on in the alternative music scene in China.
